What is the difference between alpha and bravo outdrives

The Bravo Three outdrive uses a propeller shaft-within-a-shaft driving a twin propeller. The outer propeller shaft turns the propeller nearest the outdrive counterclockwise. The inner propeller shaft -- the shaft-within-a-shaft -- turns the propeller farthest from the outdrive clockwise.

These "counterrotating" propellers cancel out each others' torque to eliminate pull to the left or the right when the boat moves. Is there a good head-to-head comparison of a bravo 1 vs. Red Tide , Sep 26, What about the Alpha one, how will it hold up.

Hundredcaliber , Nov 27, Red Tide , Nov 28, Good question. I don't know the answer. That's exactly what I meant. I'm in the building stage of putting together a Ford to a Alpha I drive. The price on the SEI looks appealing to me. I would like to hear if the service going to be there with the Alpha I?

Hundredcaliber , Dec 1, I don't know how the first- and second-generation Alphas compare, reliability-wise. You say you're using a Ford Windsor? It's a low end, mass market drive intended for something with a hp V6 that lives on a trailer and goes out for six hours each weekend. If you're going to push your drive hard, perhaps a Volvo or one of the Merc Bravos would be a better choice. Merc sold W as a with a twin barrel carb. With a 4 barrel it was a but that was only packaged on a II drive.

If your building your own spec engine then?? The weight of the boat is the key to the drive lasting If it will do 40mph it wont live that long If it will be doing 60 it will live. Greetings to all From what I'm hearing is that you cant get the Bravos or the newer drives to hook up to the older style engines.

I was told the Alpha1 was the only option. Hundredcaliber , Dec 5, The Alpha-1 1th generation cannot cope with Merc HP. In my drive the vertical shaft snapped in the first week.

I must admit that the drive was already used approx 50 hours with a HP engine. Bravo One: For performance boats in excess of mph with one, two, or three engines.

Bravo Two: For big twin engine boats up to 55 mph. Bravo Three: For single engine boats up to 65 mph or twin engine boats between mph. In addition to triple-digit speeds, the exclusive performance torpedo design and dual water pickups allow the Bravo 1 to handle high and low speeds well.

The two props are mounted in front of one another and turn in opposite directions eliminating wasted energy from the propeller wash. The Bravo 3 is available in a single or twin engine application and is capable of speeds up to 65 mph for gas engines up to HP. Looks light Bravo 1 is for lighter faster boats and the Bravo 2 is for slow heavy cruisers.

I never knew. Glad I looked. BTW I love the color on your nova. MDO Sharpshooter. Joined Aug 19, Messages Reaction score 0 Location broken arrow. Click to expand Post Reply. Insert Quotes…. Similar threads. Antique air compressor info? Replies 6 Views Sep 12, rawhide. Replies 13 Views
